Sleep Aids: Is Finding the Right One Giving You Restless Nights?
Sleep is something that many of us are finding less time to actually get, so, when we do finally get the chance to try and sleep, should we be starting by using sleep aids to make sure we get the best possible sleep, before anything can happen to disrupt it?
That may be a strange thing to wonder about, but just think about it for a moment; you’ve been working hard, and haven’t had too many chances to get some long, restful, reinvigorating sleep, and then the time arrives where you get a chance.
You make sure that everything is nice and ready; there’s no chance of any interruptions, and then, well, and then nothing. You’ve been so busy for so long, and so tired during that time, that your brain can’t switch off; instead of getting those eight hours of well earned sleep, you have eight hours of staring at the ceiling and wondering if you’ll ever sleep again. It’s all very Shakespearean.
Where did it all go wrong?
When this happens it can be so easy to blame things that have been going on, for your lack of sleep; only to discover that they weren’t the problem, and you should be looking for some good insomnia cures.
Ok, if we assume that it’s insomnia then all we need is one of the off the shelf insomnia cures, right? These sleep aids will help us tonight, and after that we won’t have any more problems; will we? Actually, no, that’s not quite true.
Although these sleep aids may help you one night, there’s no reason to believe that one goodnight’s sleep is going to mean that you’ll sleep any better the following night; so why would that be?
What are some of the mistakes to avoid?
What many people think is the reason for them not sleeping is often quite different from the actual cause of the problem. The first thing you should do if you are having a problem is to see your doctor.
A visit to your doctor will at least be able to narrow down whether your problem is actually health related, and that will give you something to target to get the sleeping routine back on track.
If it is health related then many of the treatments available aren’t going to do you a lot of good. If the problems are down to the lifestyle that you lead, which could be the routine that you have, or the type of food you eat, and when you eat, then you’ll have to make changes accordingly i.e. eating a small snack which is high in carbs, and low in protein is fine, however, having a curry shortly before going to bed isn’t a good idea.
If this is a stress related problem, then finding a way to deal with the stress in your life is going to be a far better way of fixing your sleeping problem than taking any of the herbal sleep aids on the market. Just think about it for a moment; if you’re suffering from stress, and just take something to help you sleep, is that doing anything to remove the stress?
It’s still going to be there the next day, isn’t it? If it is, do you have any reason to believe that you’ll sleep any better the next night? It doesn’t really make any sense, does it?
And the non health related problems?
The first thing to do in this case is to eliminate some of the easier problems that could be stopping you from sleeping.
Sometimes just rearranging your bedroom can be enough to have you sleeping like a baby. If you sleep near a draft it can give you problems. If the temperature of the room is too hot, that can cause you to fidget at night, and that can disrupt your sleeping pattern, too.
Have you tested out different pillows and mattresses? A mattress that’s too soft, and doesn’t give you proper support when you’re trying to sleep, will cause you to have breathing problems that will keep you awake; or at least stop you from reaching a deep REM sleep cycle. A similar thing applies to a pillow that doesn’t give your head and neck proper support.
What about natural sleeping aids?
There are a number of natural sleeping aids that you can take to help with your insomnia. In most cases these will be based on herbal sleep aids.
Of course, you don’t have to take the herbal sleep aids in tablet form; not everyone can, so as an alternative you could choose to have a herbal tea instead.
There are other natural sleeping aids that you may find even easier to use, and the medically proven Easy Sleep System that you can get from Alteril are going to show you that there are genuine alternatives to the shop bought insomnia cures.
Ok, what happens if you decide that sleep aids aren’t for you?
Well, you may recover from the problem on your own; or you may not. In the meantime there’s a good chance that you’re going to have trouble staying awake at work, which won’t be too much of a problem, because you won’t keep your job for very long.
Can you imagine what would happen if you started to fall asleep while you were at the wheel of your car? Bad as that may be, what if you had your family with you at the time?
Speaking of family, with the mood swings, anxiety, and depression, the chances are that they wouldn’t be going out anywhere with you at the time, anyway.
Can you see why trying a combination of these sleep aids would be a wise choice?
So, if you want to get some proper sleep, keep your job, and keep the family intact, then start by visiting your doctor to see if there’s a medical reason for your sleeping problems. If it isn’t medical then think about changing your bedroom to cut out light and noise distractions, and regulate the temperature. If all of those things are ok, and you’re still having problems, you’ll need to try one of the sleep aids that are available.
If you want a tip, though, cut out the experimenting with the other sleep aids that you can get, take a look at the Easy Sleep System first; it will save you so much time, money, and lost sleep in getting to the right solution for you.
